My dad took my two nephews, Levi (5) and Oliver (4), fishing yesterday! It was kind of a chilly day and wind was a factor. They decided to stay in the river since it is more protected from the wind then out in the bay.
The Fish Finder Served Them Well
The fish finder was a big help yesterday. They followed the marks on the fish finder to shallow water, about 4 feet deep, where they found a honey hole.
The most successful bait of the day was grass shrimp.
White perch are running well now. The kids both caught lots of White Perch. Most of which I heard would have been good enough to take home and cook if they’d felt like it.
Levi’s Channel Cat
The excitement of the afternoon was when Levi hooked into a Channel Cat. It wasn’t a huge one, but it was a big fish for a small kid. It was pulling drag and everything.
He landed it mostly by himself. My dad just had to stand close so that the rod didn’t get pulled out of his hand.
They Had A Great Trip
Sounds like they had fun, even though it was a short trip and they stayed close to home. I’m jealous, I want to go fishing. Weather and doctors appointments have been interefering with my fishing lately. Hopefully, I will get out next week!
