Turn Your Negative Energy Into Positive
We all have those days. Days we are upset, depressed, frustrated with life. Any number of things can cause us to have a bad day.
I know that the best way to make myself feel better is by focusing my energy on doing something nice for someone else.
We all have different skills and talents and can do that in different ways.
I’m A Writer…
Well, obviously, you know I’m a writer since I have a blog. I’m also a letter writer. I love sending cards and letters in the mail to family and friends.
My Grandmother was a letter writer and taught me how special and thoughtful it is to send someone a handwritten letter or card. She wrote to my Pop-Pop every day when he was in the Navy. Then wrote my dad every day when he was drafted and went to Vietnam.
She would write me letters, just telling me how all her friends at the senior housing were. She had lots of them! As well as updating me on all my cousins and what is going on in their lives.
So letter writing is a hobby for me. Come to find out there are many organizations who ask for handwritten letters for people. As soon as I realized this I thought this would be a perfect way that I can use the skills that enjoy helping others.
Operation Gratitude is an organization that supports all branches of our military, their families as well as first responders and their families. They send care packages to deployed soldiers As well as supporting new recruits and of course Veterans.
I write letters for Operation Gratitude. It is easy, just a general hi, hope you are well and telling them how much I appreciate their service and sacrifice.
Sometimes I have stationary or cards to use, other times I just used plain lined paper. The point is the thoughtfulness of the letter. Not whether it comes in the form of a fancy card or not.
Girls Love Mail
Girls Love Mail is an organization that supports women who have just received cancer diagnoses. The letters I write for them are about showing my support for them. Telling them I believe they can beat whatever their diagnosis is. I also remind them to never stop thinking about the future and all it holds! Then I tell them that this too shall pass!
Love For The Elderly
Letters for the Elderly is an organization that gives out letters to elderly people in nursing homes. Some of the people may or may not have any family or friends who visit them. Sending them letters gives them something to look forward to. It lets them know that they are not alone and that there are people thinking about them.

Maybe You Aren’t A Writer
Even if you aren’t a writer and so this sort of thing wouldn’t be your cup of tea. Research how you can use your interests and skills to change any negative vibes in your life to positive ones.
It Works For Me And It Will Work For You!
I just commit to writing a few letters a day and then at the end of the month I mail them all in. It really doesn’t take much time at all, and really makes me feel like I’m doing something to make a difference to someone.
I may not be able to make a difference in the whole world, but I like to think that I make a difference to the people who get my letters.
Kindness is contagious!
