Today is one of those days that I woke up feeling like I was going to have to decide that I’m going to have a good day. I have a bad headache, my muscles are sore from PT and Yoga. It feels like a day that I would rather just lock myself in the house and binge watch something on TV all day long.
I Made The Decision Not To Do That
I knew it was my choice and I made the conscious decision that I was going to have a good day. It is up to me and I decided! In order to do that though, I decided that I need to focus on a few certain things.
You Can’t Change The Past
No matter how much you regret something you did, or maybe did not do, we can’t go back in time and change it. We can take life lessons from it if there are any. We cannot change it though, once you have come to this realization, it is easier to let things go.
Despite How I Sometimes Feel, I Do Not, In Fact, Have A Black Cloud Hanging Over Me
If I look back over the years, the first thing that comes to mind is that I feel like I have bad luck. If something bad is going to happen, you can bet it will happen to me. I have had my fair share of bad experiences, though so has everyone else.
I made the decision today that there is no black cloud over me. Bad things happen to everyone. Life happens, accidents happen, we don’t always get our way.
The bad is relative to the good though. All those negative things that can be so easy to focus on are outnumbered by good things. Good memories, friendships, family, and pets.
If have way more bad than good in our lives, we just have to choose to look for it and focus on it.
This Too Shall Pass
When I have a bad day or even a bad season, a prolonged time where things seem like they just won’t go my way, I know that this too shall pass. Tomorrow is another day to start fresh or make a change or to do whatever you want to do really.
There is always tomorrow, so there is always something to look forward to. Be a believer in the future, and believe that it holds great things for you.
You Can Only Do The Best You Can Do, And That Is Okay
You can only do the best that you can and know how to do. It doesn’t matter in what context we are talking about it in, it’s still true. In every situation, all we can do is our best. Sometimes our best is enough, sometimes it isn’t…You have to try hard to tell yourself this and come to terms with it. Don’t beat yourself up over things. You did the very best you can do and that is all you can do.
I write these kinds of posts because it helps me. Writing about things help me to think more clearly. I’m not naturally a glass half full kind of person. I have to try every day to be positive and look at the world through rose-colored glasses.
All of these ideas I tell you because I think sometimes a reminder might help you. Decide to be happy. Decide to live with gratitude. It’s okay to be upset, we all get upset. It is okay to get frustrated, we all get frustrated. We can’t let it color our whole lives through. We have to make the decision that we are going to train ourselves to look on the bright side!
It takes practice and effort every day. It is way easier to be grumpy and say “woe is me.” That’s no way to go through your day to day life though. I had an accident that caused me to have a TBI. It turned my whole life upside down and backward. The last year and a half of my life rehabilitating from this injury has changed my perspective on so many things. I took a lot of things for granted for a very long time.
Now I’m grateful for all I have in my life. The support from family and friends. Great doctors. I have a lot to be thankful for. If I made a list the good would definitely outnumber the bad things in my life.
So I’m going to focus on the positive and keep on keepin’ on. Thank you for listening to my little pep talk to myself. Hopefully, someone will gain something from it! I did me a lot of good to share it with you.
