Last month, it was super easy to come up with a theme for my bullet journal. I have a whole book of patriotic scrapbook paper and used that as well as some patriotic stickers and washi tape. July was all about red, white and blue. It was a fun theme and easily done with things I already had stashed away here.
I spent a lot of July thinking about what theme I might do in August. It is my birthday month, so I thought about doing a birthday theme for August.
Problem is, I did not have anything offhand that I thought would be good for a birthday-themed month of pages. It was also getting pretty darn close to being August and I hadn’t started my new layouts yet. Since I didn’t have anyone to take me out shopping for stuff, I came to the conclusion that I would have to use things I already had here. Otherwise, August would probably have come and go with no bullet journaling!
Remember, I’m The Non-Artistic Bullet Journaler!
I’m not artistic! At all, not even a little bit. My bullet journal pages consist of photos, pictures I cut out of magazines, stickers, etc.
Sometimes I think if I had some more artistic ability I could do way more cool stuff with my bullet journal. Well, I’m not going to wake up one day and become an artist, so instead, I use my creativity to make cool pages and themes.
I know when you look at bullet journals on Pinterest can be intimidating. You will find pins and more pins of beautiful perfect artistic journal pages. Just putting it out there that you can still have fun with bullet journaling and reap the benefits, even if you aren’t artistic. Don’t let lack of artistic ability keep you from giving it a try.
So What Did I Do For August?
I always save greeting card that people send me. I guess I’m just a sentimental person, but I like to go back and look over them every so often. In the last year due to my being hurt, I have gotten a lot more greeting cards than usual. With more time on my hands, I have also sent a lot more greeting cards this year! Another reason why I probably got more than usual.
I used greeting cards to decorate my bullet journal pages. Some of them I used the picture from the front, others I used the notes that were written on the inside. I made a whole page in between my normal tracking pages and my teaching notes with a letter from a friend.
Changes From Past Months
This month I did not make any type of calendar page for each day. Between my iPhone calendar and the calendar in my riding lesson scheduling app, having a calendar page for each day in the bullet journal was way too much.
It was like I had to remember to put everything in three different places. Which of course made me always forget to write something somewhere. Or by the time I got through putting things on all three calendars, I screwed something up! Wrote it down wrong, at the wrong time, or on a wrong day! It just confused me and was frustrating so I decided this month I wouldn’t include those pages. Never know, I might miss them and want to add them in again next month, we will see what happens!
Daily Habits Page
So I totally forgot about my usual daily habits page…By the time I remembered it, I was about done with finishing all my pages. I looked back over it and realized that I had forgotten it. I’m too OCD to just put it on one of the later pages! Ever since I started bullet journaling I have always had that be one of the first pages I make for each month. Strange as it seems, I couldn’t bring myself to put daily habits in the back!
Guess we will see whether or not I miss it or not!
August Cover Page
Is a birthday count down for my nephew and me who both have August birthdays. I found the cutest picture of my nephew on his first birthday and I think the page turned out perfect.
I always have fun with a gratitude page. This month it is titled ” A Gratitude A Day Keeps The Grumpiness Away”. This page is jazzed up with the cover and inside message on a greeting card I got from a friend.
For weather, I always track high and low temperatures, whether it was cloudy or sunny. As well as the barometric pressure. I found a really pretty card I had gotten with sunflowers on a blue background. Also, I used the front of a card I had from a variety pack of blank cards. It is super pretty with white and yellow flowers on it.
Many Moods Of Me
This is what I call the page where I track my TBI stuff. Headache, other TBI symptoms, mood and how my day went overall.
It is really interesting comparing the weather page to this page. It made it clear that the barometric pressure definitely as I suspected contributes to the severity of my headaches.
The top of this page is decorated with a quote that I cut out from a magazine” There’s not a non-encouraging bone in her body”. I also included part of a greeting card that I got from one of the church ladies who sends me cards all the time. It is a little business card size corner of the page that says ” Live in such a way that there will be no regrets when someone else follows in your footsteps”
My reading page, I used a really pretty card that I got from a woman I met via eBay who makes all Ziva’s cute dresses. I was so excited to get a card from her. She didn’t have to send me anything personal, she could have just sent what I ordered. Instead, she thanked me for my business and wished me well on my TBI recovery. So far I’m on track to read more this month than last. I have already read three books this early in the month, and I’m pretty sure the whole month of July I only read three!
On my blog/writing page at the top is a letter that I got from an “Instagram friend”, another TBI patient who is also working to raise awareness. It was a super nice letter and really made me feel inspired to continue to heal and inspire others.
Besides having a space to write down each days topic, I also included a little box where each day I check of which category I wrote in. So it says, horse, outdoors, TBI, random, guest and reading. Each time I write a post I put a star under the category I just wrote.
I’m hoping it is going to be a quick way for me to make sure that I’m writing a variety of posts on my page and not getting stuck on only one topic too long.
Summer Camp Week #4
We have our last week of summer camp this month. I like to record what we did in camp. How the day went, what the kids liked and what they didn’t. If I think of any ideas to use in the future I like to write them down.
To decorate this page, I used a postcard that I received from one of the families at the farm who went to the Kentucky Horse Park on vacation.
The Next Page- A Divider of Sorts
The next page is basically a divider page between my personal tracking pages, and the pages I use to write notes about the riding lessons that I teach.
This page is a letter sent to Tycen and me from a friend after she had an accident on one of our horses. Luckily, she is doing well, recovering slowly but surely. The note was just super sweet as well as funny. Putting it in the bullet journal will mean that I will always have it. Leaving stuff like letters and cards loose in this house and there is no guarantee that I will see them again.
Last month I had a page for each student. It ended up seeming wasteful because this time of year between camp and family vacations, I do not teach as many lessons. Most of the pages just had one or two lessons written on them and the rest blank.
This month I just have a page that says ” August Lesson Notes”. At the top of it, I put a picture that I have been using recently as inspiration and motivation. I wrote about that picture a couple of days ago. It is a picture of me with a horse, so it is appropriate for the riding lessons section.
This month, I’m just starting on the first lesson notes page, putting the dates and writing the notes each day. Then draw a line underneath to separate the days. This will definitely save pages.
Currently, I have no clue what theme I will use for September. Looking forward to doing a Halloween theme in October, I already have ideas for that. In the meantime though, I have to come up with September ideas!
If you think my descriptions of my bullet journal pages are interesting, you should give bullet journaling a try! Keeping track of different things is interesting as the month progresses. As well as being able to compare to earlier months.
My bullet journal is proof that you don’t have to be an artist to enjoy bullet journaling. The possibilities are endless!
