I Have Had My Share Of Spooky Experiences
It is’ the season for scary things! Which makes it a great time for me to share some scary of the spooky things that have happened to me here. I will start by telling you the stories that have happened here at my farm.
Then, tell you a few other random spooky stories, just to get into the Halloween Spirit.
Who Is/ Was Uncle Jack?
Uncle Jack, was actually my great uncle since he was my mother’s uncle. He was still living for a short time after I was born. I do not remember much about him. The things I do remember I think are only from stories my parents had told me about him.
He lived in the farmhouse I live in his whole life. First with his parents( my mother’s grandparents John Ellison And Katherine Ellison). Then shortly after my parents got married, they put an addition onto our farmhouse. Uncle Jack was going to continue to live with us at the farm. He needes some looking after and he worked at Chesapeake High School as Maintenence staff, so it worked out well that he lived here on our farm.
From what I get from my family, Uncle Jack was quite a character in his time. Well known in the community ( which was much smaller back then) just for all the situations he managed to get himself into. I was always told he had a kind heart, and many people took advantage of him for it.
Needless to say, Uncle Jack did not live with us very long. I was born in 1984 and like I said I don’t remember him except for what my family has said, and my “experiences” with him in this house, I love oh so very much! Uncle Jack did not die here in the house. It was an illness that came on suddenly but he died in the hospital.
Lots Of People, Both Family And Non-Family Have Lived Here
Obviously, my great grandparents raised their family in this house. When my dad was working at the park we had several season rangers live here in the farmhouse while they worked at the park.
Prior to me living here, my mother’s good friend lived here for a number of years.
Everyone That Has Ever Lived Here Has Had An Encounter With Uncle Jack
Everyone that ever lived here in this house, including my parents when they lived here for a while when they first married after Uncle Jack’s death.
It seemed in death he was trying to keep up with the same schedule he did in life. When he worked at the school for maintenance his shifts would end in the early morning. According to my parents, he would watch TV in the wee hours of the morning after work.
TV Turning It’s Self On And Off
Everyone who has ever lived here, including me has had the TV come on randomly. Whether it be in the middle of the night or just some random time in the day.
Not that the TV turning on isn’t creepy in its self, but the thing is, if you turn it back off, wait a few minutes and it is guaranteed to come back on again.
Hearing About It As A Kid
I was afraid of Uncle Jacks’s ghost as a kid. We moved out of the farmhouse to move to the park for my dad’s job. So when my parents sent me into the farmhouse for whatever reason I was always terrified.
The place creeped me out. To the point that when I was given the opportunity to move in, my parents were surprised I wanted to live here.
He Comes And Goes
Uncle Jack was definitely here more frequently after his death. Also, it seemed that he was more interested in bothering( or freaking out, if ghosts even know they can do that?)people living here who were not family.
Literally, everyone who has lived here has told stories about Uncle Jack. Especially, turning on the TV downstairs in the middle of the night. They would go turn it off. Then it would turn back on before they had pulled the covers back up on the bed.
At Peace With Uncle Jack
I guess since I’m his great-niece, he came to accept me living here pretty quickly. In the beginning, he turned off the TV on and off quite regularly. It has been a long time since he has visited me here, like years.
Probably with me writing this, he will remember that he wants to come back for a visit. Maybe not! I can honestly say that it didn’t take me long to not be afraid of Uncle Jack anymore.
My whole family said he was a good and kind person. If he was here it was just because he didn’t want to leave his childhood home. Uncle Jack was harmless, he just takes a little getting used to the first couple times you meet him!
On the rare occurrence that he comes by in recent years, it is a surprise, not a scare. We welcome him to do his thing for a while. Then when he is done his visit he just goes away for a while.
Not All Ghosts Are Scary
I will admit, I was a little scared the first few times he stopped by. He doesn’t scare me anymore. I actually think that it is kind of cool. To imagine that my family members are still here in spirit on our family farm.
I guess old houses and family farms are full of stories like this one! I’m glad to share mine with you!
