It Made Perfect Sense That Uncle Jack Would Stop By The Farm Occasionally
There was no horse barn here when Uncle Jack was living. Back behind the house, it was all farm fields. It looks nothing like it did back then now. I guess that is the reason that Uncle Jack wanted to check everything out. Maybe he wanted to see the horses? His father my great-grandfather John Ellison, always had mules…maybe the horses reminded him of that.
Anyway, there is one memorable time that he made an appearance in the barn. It was a while back and it was my best friend Megan who saw him.
It Was A Dark And Spooky Show Morning
When we used to compete in horse shows every weekend, we had many dark and spooky mornings getting the horses ready to go. Someone always had to get there first.
Normally, nobody was alone for very long, we all staggered in a few at a time to get ready.
Megan Was The First One There
Let me begin by saying to those who don’t know Megan, she is one of those people that if there is going to be some sort of weird paranormal experience, it is going to happen to her. She is a mortician, she likes dead things, so maybe that is why dead things like her! Who knows!
What Did She See?
I honestly don’t remember what she said she was doing at the specific moment she saw him. She was only a little bit shaken. The first question was ” where is Ricky”. That is my brother who would never have been anywhere close to the barn on a horse show morning. That would be his worst nightmare.
I told her that Ricky wasn’t here and that I knew for a fact he would have no reason to be here. This was many years ago before Ricky lived two doors down from the farm, and before he got involved with being up and around the far to take care of his cattle and goats.
He was still living in the park because my dad was still working there.
Not to mention, at this point in his life Ricky drove an orange 1983 Jeep Cherokee with 38 Inch tires on it. Basically an orange monster truck, so he wasn’t sneaking up anywhere.
We Started Discussing It Again In The Truck On The Way To The Show
Megan continued to swear, wholeheartedly that she saw someone in a flannel walk by the outside of the barn. She also said at the time she smelled the smell of someone smoking a cigarette.
We all freaked ourselves out about it more and more when we came to the realization that I was, in fact, right, there was no way it could be Ricky. You can’t hide an orange Jeep on 38’s …Not to mention this was back in his younger days when he still tried to be sneaky about smoking. He didn’t want my parents to find out. Not that everyone didn’t already smell it on him, but we knew he had no reason to be there and wouldn’t smoke where any of us could see. Especially not near the barn.
I Don’t Remember Who Figured It Out First
I’m not sure who realized that it must have been Uncle Jack she saw. Over the years he had made his presence known inside, but never outside or in the barn.
The thing that sealed the deal, and the reason we know it was him. was that he was a smoker….he smoked constantly. He was alive in the days before people admitted that smoking was dangerous for your health. My parents said that family members would actually buy him cigarettes for holidays and birthday since they never knew what else to get him!
Uncle Jack Visited The Barn
Megan to this day will tell you right hand to god, that she saw someone tall and thin in a flannel walk by the barn door. As soon as we heard the part about the cigarette smoke, that’s when we knew that Uncle Jack was still around and was checking out the barn and other stuff that wasn’t here when he lived here.
See, he just stops by on harmless visits from time to time! Ask Megan, she will tell you all about it!
