Plan For The Ride
On day 7, Cool and Amelia trotted for the first time under saddle. It went really well. The plan was to do a quick lunge and then continuing to work with the trotting. We added some ground poles to step over as well.
Little Spooky Start
Oddly enough, for some reason when Amelia mounted he was acting a little spooky. This is the first time we have seen him that tense. It really wasn’t super windy or a lot of distractions. Just typical horse stuff, never knowing what you might get on any given day.
Cool Settled In Quickly
After the brief rough start he settled in nicely. Once he got focused, Amelia was able to get him pushing from behind nicely. It didn’t take long and he was going around in a nice frame. A beautiful one actually, if someone had just popped up to the ring fence they never would have known this was a horse that was just coming back into a training program again. We couldn’t have been happier!
Always Trying To Keep Things Interesting
We want cool to keep enjoying his work. Today we freshened things up by adding trot poles. They took him by surprise at first and he jumped them the first couple times around. It didn’t take long before he settled into the poles as well. Just bopping around and stepping over them like they really weren’t even there.
Time To Take A Stroll Out Of The Ring
We decided since he was being so good and now so relaxed it was as good a day as any to take him for a stroll out of the ring fence. It went great! He took a nice easy walk around the ring fence and back.
We Couldn’t Ask For A Better Session!
Cool is a quick study and we are grateful that so far has been a smooth ride. We are going to keep on keepin’ on!
