A Few Weeks On The Supplement
I posted about my decision to start Finn on a joint supplement, and that I had chosen Cosequin for him. He has been on it for a few weeks now. I wanted to post an update on how he seems to be doing. He had started being stiff and sore both in the front and behind. I wish I would have thought about posting a before video…My bad, brain bruised remember!
Attitude Has Not Changed Much
Finn has always been known to make grumpy faces from time to time. The attitude isn’t exactly a red flag. He seems more willing to go forward. Unfortunately, he still looks irritated with tail ringing, some bucking, and just general tension. Finn doesn’t look nearly as handsome with his ears pinned back against his head. He has also been doing a lot of cross cantering and random lead swapping.
No Short Strides Or Lame Steps
He has not had lame or sore days as he had been having. We had even had days that we got on him and then put him back. Because he did not look sound enough to work. In that respect, he is better. Since we haven’t had any days that he looked to old and cripply to ride him.
Pain Or Anticipated Pain?
I have known horses in the past who have had previously been hurt or had some underlying pain issues. healed. Issues that were healed according to the vet. Yet the horse was still showing the same behavior that indicated that there was a problem in the first place.
Like they think it’s going to hurt. Pain is programmed in their brains so they keep up the behavior even when the physical problem is gone.
I don’t know how this could possibly apply to Finnigan because he didn’t have an injury, or hurt something specific. It is just age-related and arthritis aches and pains.
Guess we will figure that out as we continue working him. We will see if his behavior changes for the better, or worse. Never know, it might just stays the same.
Finny has always been that horse that had a pretty level headed reliable temperament. Not that he is being awful, he is just not being himself. Factors like the weather changing and getting him out in the open field. Instead of in the riding ring could also maybe change his moods a bit.
This Is Where He Stands Right Now
Of course, I had two videos to add to this post. Unfortunately, they refuse to upload to youtube at the moment. Stupid technology. I will add them to the post later if I ever get my technology to cooperate.
I’m hoping that right now we still have not worked up to the full effect of the daily supplement. Time will tell!
