Saturday, May 16
The weather was great. In the upper 70’s and mostly sunny. It was the perfect day to get the Jenny Bird ready for the season. We even had time for a quick fishing trip.
The Jenny Bird was filthy dirty from sitting on the lift all winter. My dad did all of the work while I watched and made sure that my nephews didn’t jump off the pier. Let’s just say they were a little anxious to get out on the boat and fish!
Dad scrubbed the boat and checked the batteries. The Jenny Bird fired right up when my dad turned the key.
The hardest part of getting the boat ready was avoiding all the wasps that had taken up home in the nooks and crevices of the boat. There were wasps flying out of rod holders, under the steering wheel. Some we couldn’t even figure out where they came from!
Luckily, my Dad had a big can of wasp spray. He sprayed everywhere that we saw a wasp as well as any likely little holes they could be hiding in.
Oh Yea, The Boat Lift
We have had some trouble with our lift last season. I’m glad to report that the lift got the Jenny Bird both down in the water and back out of the water with no problem. Love it when things work properly!
And We Were Off
We got the kids in the boat and headed over to one of our normal honey holes near Gibson Island. My Uncle had mentioned to my dad that he caught a decent catfish there last week. We fished here for a bit, didn’t even have a bite.
We were fishing with blood worms, normally the white perch tear them up. Even if we don’t catch anything big or exciting, we will at least be catching little perch. Not this time!
We fished at 4 of our usual places, all close to home. I think I had a couple bites, but not a single fish was caught on Saturday.
Banana On The Boat
One would have thought their was a banana on the boat with the bad luck we had! There definitely was not though, we know better!
Pretty Day Out On The Water
Despite the fact that we couldn’t find the fish on Saturday, it was a great first outing of the season. The weather was nice, the boat run well, we didn’t break any fishing tackle or lose either of my nephews off the side of the boat!
Week Day Fishing
We will probably be primarily fishing during the week from now on. With Memorial weekend fast approaching it was obvious everyone was out making sure their boats were running well and ready for the official start of the summer boating and fishing season.
There was tons of boat traffic, which probably contributed some to the fact that we couldn’t find the fish!
We tend to prefer fishing during the week during prime fishing and boating season. Just because the areas of the Magothy and the Bay that we fish are crazy busy on weekends. Which doesn’t make for great fishing.
Week days though are great, so that is when we try and do most of our fishing.
Just Jump On And Go
Hopefully, now that we have had the boat out once and everything seems good to go, we will be able to jump in and go fishing more often. Especially, now that the weather is getting nicer!
So hopefully, I will be able to share with you some successful fishing reports very soon!!
