He Had An Unplanned Long Break
Luckily, it was not because he was injured or lame. It was because the barn had to shut down due to COVID-19. The barn was a ghost town aside from the daily chores and there wasn’t any riding going on.
Barn Back Open
Now that the barn is back open. It is time for all the horses to get back to work.
Before the break, Cool had been going really well. We were super excited about his progress. So it was disappointing having to stop working with him for a while.
Luckily, the guidelines eased up and allowed us to reopen the barn this week. We have to use some new protocol to keep people separated and all the equipment disinfected, but we are back in business!
Glad We Lunged Him First!
Amelia was smart about his first ride after the break. She decided to lunge him first. Which turned out to be a good idea. He definitely had a couple sketchy moments on the lunge line. Luckily, he got his little bucking fits out pretty quickly and settled down nicely.
Up She Goes
I held Cool while she got on him. He stood quietly, didn’t walk off until Amelia was ready. Cool seemed like his regular old self.
Obviously, he is out of shape so we didn’t do a ton with him for his first time under saddle for a while. Just a little walk, trot and canter both ways.
He Was Fabulous!!
I’m happy to report that Cool doesn’t seem to have forgotten any of the schooling that he had learned before we had to take a break.
He was a very good boy! Check out his first time back under saddle in the videos below!
We Have A Great Starting Point!
It seems we are starting off where we left off! Which is great after a long unplanned break.
It goes to show that a regular training program, consistent riding and good horsemanship pays off!
