Got An Early Start
We were determined to get an early start on fishing. We were on the water by a few minutes after 7 a.m. It was beautiful out, the Magothy was like glass. Not choppy at all.
Where We Headed
We headed out the mouth of the Magothy into the Bay and headed north, as opposed to south towards podickery. We fished different spots and then action stopped we moved further south until we were back at what I think would be considered Podickery.
We picked up night crawlers and clam snouts at our tackle shop. They have not been able to get blood worms recently and so these are the baits we have been most successful with.
Rockin’ and Rollin’ On The Bay
Surprisingly, despite the calmness of the river. Out in the open in the bay it was very choppy. There was no small craft advisory but I would not have wanted to be out there if it was much rougher than that(I know I’m a chicken).
Spot AKA Live-Line Bait
The spot we caught went on the live-line rods. We got no action on them at all. Hopefully next time out.
There Are Rockfish Out There
This year we were beginning to think that Rockfish were some kind of mythical creature. We hadn’t caught any at all!
Yesterday, we finally caught some baby Rockfish. It was very exciting to know that they are actually out there. If the babies are out there hopefully it is just a matter of time before we catch mom or dad.
A legal keeper this time in the season is 19 inches. The ones we caught were not even cute!
Total Fish Count
36 White Perch
3 Baby Rockfish
0 Fish stories about big ones that got away
We Beat The Heat
Our choice to head out early was a good one, we were back at the pier by about 11:30 and managed to beat the worst of the days heat.
Any Day Is A Good Day For Fishing
So many factors go into fishing. Tide, water temperature, time of year, time of day…. For most people, like us. Our lives don’t allow us to wait until the ideal days and times to go out. If the Jenny Bird can float off the lift we will go. If you don’t get your line in the water you will never catch anything.
So pack some drinks and snacks in a cooler, grab some bait and a friend or family member and go fishing!
