George Washington- Only President To Be Sworn In , In Two Different Cities
He was sworn in April 30,1789 at the New York Federal Court House. Also, on March 4, 1793 at the Congress Hall in Philadelphia which was at the time the nations capital.
George Washington Had To Borrow Money To Get To His!
George Washington may have been land rich. Didn’t have much money in his pockets though because he had to borrow money to get to NYC for his inauguration.
John Adams did not have any family members come to his Inauguration. So sad!
First Inaugural Ball
James Madison held the first Inaugural Ball, and the tickets were $4.
In an effort to relay “Republican Simplicity”. Jefferson walked to and from his Inauguration. Foregoing all the “pomp and circumstance” normally associated with it.

Dolly Madison was the first lady to attend an Inauguration.

John Adams wore long pants to his Inauguration. Previously knee breeches had been the “in thing”.
Frozen Food and Drink, Dead Canaries
Ulysses Grant was sworn in on March 4, 1873. It was 16 degrees out. All the food and drinks froze. As well as the canaries that he had planned to release during the festivities.

Nixon Hated Pigeons
Nixon was so emphatic that there be no pigeons on the parade route that he had $13,000 dollars spent on something called “No Roost” which was supposed to keep the pigeons from roosting on things along the parade route. Unfortunately, the pigeons liked the taste of the substance, which turned out to be toxic. Which left dead and dying pigeons along the parade route!
