Just A Regular Day
Today was just a normal day really. I’m too tired to write anything too in-depth so I’m just going to tell you about my day!
Woke Up Extra Early!
For whatever reason, I woke up extra early this morning and we got the morning chores done quickly. It’s easy this time of year when the horses are in during the day and out at night schedule.
Finn & His Feet
My horse Finnigan has had soundness issues practically for the past year. The plan for the last few months was to put glue on shoes on. The farrier was supposed to come out a few times before today to do it, but it was just too hot for the glue to work evidently.
Today, not only was it hot, we have had a lot of storms, so he has been standing in the muddy wet ground all week. Glue-on shoes can’t get put on wet feet either. So no farrier today!
One of these days the stars will align or should I say weather aligns…and Finn can get his shoes on!
Lesson @ 9:30
I had a lesson to teach at 10, my nephew and my two cousins. They are good little riders and progressing well. Today was not their day though! The horses weren’t feeling it either. Though in their defense it was hot and the flies were especially bad.
Tic-Toc left the ring instead of turning by the gate a couple of times. He was also rooting the reins out of Ollie’s hands.
Magic was good until I set up a little pattern for them to do and her friends were in the middle of the ring while she had to work.
She ended up going out the ring gate, her rider was nervous and frustrated and just let her go out. Not only did Magic go out of the ring, but she took her rider on a trail ride she didn’t ask for.
Everyone ended on a good note. Tic and Magic trotted by the gate, and then they both got some cantering in.
Dublin was really the only horse that was particularly good in the lesson. His thing is that he likes to go fast, but he always does that and everyone who rides him is used to half-halting a lot!!!
In the afternoon, I went fishing with my nephews. It was a fun afternoon, hot but fun! I will write a fishing report with the details soon!
My string of pony ride ponies in less than two weeks will be off to the MD Rennaissance Festival on weekends through October.
Due to the pandemic, we have not done any pony rides in almost two years. Tiny, the pony I’m going to do a little schooling with tonight, probably literally hasn’t worked since we turned him out on the last night of the last festival.
Tiny is a Haflinger pony. He has always been solid as a rock when it comes to giving pony rides. Though he has been known to be a little pushy on the ground when he hasn’t worked in a while. I’m waiting for it to cool off and then I’m going to go spend some time with Tiny, do a little groundwork and see where his head is at.
He probably won’t be happy with me since he hasn’t worked in forever. Hopefully, he won’t give me too much attitude! I will let you know how it goes!
So That Was My Thursday…
Nothing super exciting, just a normal day. I can’t wait till it cools off so I can go work with Tiny. Then come home and be done for the day!
We are currently binging Sons of Anarchy on Netflix, so when I’m done working I will probably collapse in front of the TV for a while!
